QBee Saturday...continued

There is so much that goes on when the QBees get together that I can't post it all.  I sure hope Gladys of www.gladysgab.blogspot.com posts what she has too!

Mitzi was working on this adorable baby quilt.  It was a kit and turned out to be pretty small.  Mitzi decided to add a tumbling block border.

Mitzi also bought a new sewing machine!!

It is a Brother Project Runway.

While Barb Bond was cleaning out the attic of her mother-in-laws old farmhouse, she ran across this box.

How many of us would have just thrown it away without looking inside?  But, something told Barb to look inside.  She saw this....

but what else was in there?   Barb found hand pieced blocks!!!!  She set them with a really dark blue and I think it is beautiful!

She is going to have this hand quilted as I think it should be.  They really don't know who made the blocks, but it most likely was Ron's Grandmother as his Mother did not quilt.  The precision of the stitches and seam allowances is amazing.  I am sure whoever made these blocks is happy they have been put into a quilt top and the quilt will be treasured for years to come.

Barb also worked on a rag ladybug.  This is for her almost 2 year old granddaughter.

 

I have had a Rubbermaid tub full of homespun fabrics that was given to me after a dear friend passed away.  I added it up, and there have/or will be 11, yes, eleven quilts made from her fabric.  Some were rag quilts, Jeff and I have matching pieced four-patch quilts, a Scrappy Mountain Majesties and I am planning on making two more that have already been cut out. 

 

As I was cutting the last two quilts, I threw the scraps in a pile because I just couldn't throw them away.  OK, why not make a Crumb quilt!!!  So I did.

I was able to get this quilted today.  Hopefully I'll get it bound within the next few days!

QBee Saturday!

This past Saturday was our QBee day and the northern invasion arrived on time.  The northern invasion consisted of Gladys, Michelle, Mitzi and Earlene.  They traveled about 1 1/2 hours to spend the day quilting and talking.  Other QBees were, Barb, Momma Barb, me and of course, Gus!

After bidding everyone hello, hauling in all the 'equipment' needed for the day, it is time for Show and Tell!  I think this is the most favorite activity of the whole day. 

This is a Stack-n-Whack done by Mitzi (she is on the right).  I love all the borders on this quilt!

From where this photo was taken I think the blocks look like lace.  Here is what they really look like!

Yep!  Skulls and Roses.  This quilt was just amazing. 

Michelle (on the left in the above photo) made the same quilt using different fabric and put a sashing in between the blocks instead of setting them side by side.

The close up I took did not come out well.  I love the setting she used.  Those little 9-patch blocks are adorable.

Earlene (who is the daughter of Gladys) was working on this quilt for her daughter.  This is Earlene's first quilt.  Earlene started quilting just a few months ago. 

 



Earlene  got the outer borders sewn on and already had the backing fabric picked out.

 

 

 

I will be quilting this with a very 1930ish design.

 

Gladys showed us her "Falling Charms" quilt top.  This pattern is available at Missouri Star Quilt Co.  There are still two borders to be attached.  Gladys used two charm packs.

 

 

Just to show how different a quilt looks depending on the fabrics chosen, here is the one I put together with one charm pack and fabrics from my stash.

 

 

Yes, I have one block turned the wrong way.  I have decided NOT to change it. 

 

OK, back to Gladys.  She was also working on a gender neutral baby quilt.  This quilt had mitered bordered and Gladys is sure she will never do them again!

 

 

This will be adorable when it is finished.  We all got a refresher course on mitered corners. 

 

Momma Barb made this I Spy from the scraps she had on hand. 

 

 

One of the other scrappy quilts Momma Barb made in 2013 was this + quilt out of American Patchwork and Quilting magazine. 

 

 

Momma was raiding everyone's stash for strips so no two pluses were the same.  The backing fabric was found at Fabric Shack while we were on our mini shop hop this past summer.

 

Momma Barb is determined to get her teapot quilt finished.  I think there is only a little of the outer border to do.

 

 

She just made herself comfortable.
